Burn Care Center

Program: You will be designing a two‐story Community Healthcare Center to include the following: Emergency Department Urgent Care Clinic Short Term Rehabilitation Center Additional Spaces Shared by ED, UC, and Rehab: Diagnostic + Imaging Areas Education + Research Areas for Providers + Patients Common Spaces Adjacent to Main Entrance (café, gift shop, healing gardens, etc.)

Client: Your client (create a name & logo) is a healthcare organization that is committed to person‐centered care, research, teaching, and service to the community. The organization is currently designing a new, state‐of‐the‐art building (choose an appropriate location). Your clients have requested that your design solutions be supported by evidence‐based research for healthcare. The interior environment should foster opportunities for healing, reflection, independence, and a meaningful quality of life for all of its users. Your clients would like the design of this building to be innovative, sustainable, and promote a sense of community.

Concept: The plant aloe vera is known for it’s healing properties. The thick, green leaves are home to aloe gel, which has been used for millennia to treat many skin conditions, including burns and to heal wounds. It has antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It also has been used for many other health purposes such as lowering blood sugar and heartburn relief.
